• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. One staff's file was missing verfied references. Manager said references were contacted but this was not documented.

  Corrective action. Manager said staff file will be updated with this information.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One staff's ECEA certificate was not validated by the ECE Registry.Manager validated the certificate during inspection.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: - fire extinguisher had no service tag or receipt of purchase. - The emergency evacuation supplies did not contain any food but it had some water, a first aid kit and a blanket.

  Corrective action. The licensee said she got the fire extinguisher last year around February or March and does not have the receipt. She will purchase a new one. - The licensee said she never knew that she should have food in her emergency supplies but will ensure it is added to the kit along with other supplies.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 children's files; 2 files are missing the MSP #

  Corrective action. Please ensure children's files are complete.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 children's files and observed the following: - 2 children do not have medical practitioner information - 4 children do not have an emergency contact

  Corrective action. Please ensure that all children's files are updated and complete.
