• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The change mat was ripped and unable to be cleaned and sanitized efficiently

  Corrective action. Manager addressed it on site by providing a new mat. The Manager confirmed mats will be checked for rips and replaced as needed.

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing observed there to be insufficient water in the emergency supplies for the required 72 hours per child.

  Corrective action. The Manager did not realize some water had expired, will purchase water for each program

  Observation. Criminal Record Check on file is not site specific.

  Corrective action. Manager said it will be obtained.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Validation was not completed for one or more staff certificates.

  Corrective action. Manager said certificate verifications will be obtained.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a kettle that was plugged in and warm to the touch, located on the edge of the stove accessible to children. The concern is that the kettle and water may fall on a child.

  Corrective action. The Manager made the kettle inaccessible while licensing was on site and will review safe practices with staff.

  Observation. Fridge temperature not maintained between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius.

  Corrective action. Manager adjusted fridge temperature and will update licensing once over all temperature lowers.

  Observation. After waking up from nap, some children are on their beds with no activities for 30 - 40 minutes.

  Corrective action. The Licensee said that after 20 minutes of being awake on their beds, the staff will provide books or quiet activities to children.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed the emergency kits and noticed they have expired food.

  Corrective action. The manager said she will update the kits and ensure there is no expired food.

  A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.

  Observation. One staff who is alone with the children has an expired first aid certificate. The staff said she has signed up for the course to be completed on the weekend

  Corrective action. The Manager will switch shifts with the staff until she has taken her first aid

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. the carpet in the infant and toddler room has stains and is in need of cleaning the licensee stated the carpets are cleaned twice a year.

  Corrective action. please ensure the carpet in both areas is cleaned to ensure the health and safety of the children in care and that the cleaning schedule is sufficient to ensure the carpet is reasonable clean at all times.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a CD player with an accessible cord, located on a low shelf above a cot that posed a fall hazard. The CD player was moved to be inaccessible while licensing was on site.

  Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

  Observation. Licensing observed a piece of sharp plastic and a small metal object with sharp edges protruding from the slide in the outdoor play area. The concern is that a child may harm themselves, as they are accessible to children.

  Observation. Licensing noted there was no record of a fire drill being completed for June 2021. The staff said it was not practiced.

  A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The hot water temperature measured at 60 degrees Celsius in the washroom used by the under 36 months program. The manager turned off the hot water during the inspection.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the hot water temperature does not exceed 49 degrees Celsius when turned back on.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 2 staff files and observed the following: > One staff was missing record of one character reference > One staff was missing record of both character references
