    Observation. Licensing observed one unstable shelving unit located in an area accessible to children in care.

    Corrective action. Staff stated this shelf would be secured to the wall within the week.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 10 children's files; 1 child's emergency contact was missing. - one child was missing a medical practitioner's name and telephone number.

    Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete and have an emergency contact in case parents cannot be reached in emergency situations. The staff said they will ask the parents for one. - Please ensure children's information is complete, a medical walk in clinic is acceptable. The staff said they will get the information from the families.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. A child with a care plan for medication did not have the times specified or the amount required to be given to the child. A child with a permission to administer medication form did not have the amount required to be given to the child.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the employees give medication according to the times specified and the amount required to be given.

    Observation. At time of Licensing Officer arrival at lunch time there were 21 children with 2 employees. 1 employee was on a break and returned to the classroom at 12:45pm.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the employee to child ratio is no less than permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. The fire extinguisher was due for service in 2019.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the fire extinguisher is serviced annually according to the information on the service tag.

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

    Observation. On review of facility policies, Licensing observed that a pet policy was not in place to guide staff in the appropriate care and supervision of children when interacting with a pet on site. Manager's own pet was in the facility as children were learning about senses. Discussed the requirements of a policy with the Manager.

    Corrective action. Please ensure appropriate policies are in place and provided to parents. Manager did inform parents on children's arrival as well as checked the allergy list.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed emergency drill records and noted that all are complete apart from the 4 year old group for December 2019. Manager acknowledged missing this drill.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all emergency drills are practiced and recorded appropriately

    Observation. Licensing reviewed a file for a staff on site today. The criminal record check contained in the file was expired as of February 2018. Discussed with the staff who seems to think she has had one completed more recently. Staff will check with Head Office

    Corrective action. Please ensure all staff working with children have an up to date criminal record check clearance. This staff never works alone. There are always 2 staff on site.
