• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. -Shelving unit above diaper change area was not secure and wobbled when moved. - Exposed nail and splintered wood on a piece of wood that was used to cover the tarp in the sandbox. This was removed during inspection.

  Corrective action. The manager will secure the shelving unit and ensure that items in the play space are safe.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (c) is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it.

  Observation. Additional mattresses were added to children's cribs; some being too big to fit in the crib. This is against the manufacturers' instructions.

  Corrective action. The manager will follow manufacturers' instructions to ensure safe sleep.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Annual emergency drill was not completed or recorded in last 12 months Insufficient water in the emergency supplies

  Corrective action. The manager will complete the emergency drill and obtain additional non-expired water for the emergency supplies

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. References were not available in one staff file

• OR SUPERVISION

  A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.

  Observation. Upon arrival, LO observed six children napping behind a closed door and one child in a cot in the main play area. One staff was observed in the outdoor play area, one on the upper level of the home and a third on a break.

  Corrective action. Licensee contact to implement a plan ensuring that children are supervised at all times.

• OR SUPERVISION

  Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

  Observation. Upon arrival, LO observed one staff, an early childhood educator, with seven children in care.

  Corrective action. Licensee contact to implement plan ensuring that the ratio of employees to children attending is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. LO observed that the fire extinguisher was due for service in August, 2025 and that the emergency supplies were insufficient to implement the emergency plan.

  Corrective action. Licensee Contact stated she would have the fire extinguisher serviced within the week and have parents provide additional emergency supplies.

  Observation. Mats were located in the play pens that did not come with the play pens. It was discussed and reviewed with the warning label that only the mats that came with the play pens can be used.

  Corrective action. Ensure that the equipment is used according to the instructions.

  Observation. The name of the Manager is not posted.

  Corrective action. Ensure that the name of the Manager is posted.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.

  Observation. Staff records were located on a device in the personal living area.

  Corrective action. Ensure that records are kept in a single in place in the community care facility.
