  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Indoor: - piles of miscellaneous items such as paperwork and toys are covering countertops and table tops in the main activity area and along a hallway on both sides which could potentially pose a fire hazard and does not allow access to these areas for cleaning or use - uncovered electrical outlets accesible to children in the main play area - a suspended speaker cord in the living room where children nap, accessible to children could pose a risk of entanglement. Outdoor: - 4 large uncovered water barrels containing standing water in the children's outdoor play space which poses a potential risk of drowning - a tricycle with a broken seat and a broken plastic bucket with sharp edges have not been removed - a few pieces of metal rebar are protruding from the ground attached to suspended ropes used to secure trees; the ropes pose an entanglement risk and the rebar poses a risk if a child were to fall on it

Corrective action. The licensee said she will remove items from the indoor space, cover the outlets and ensure that children do not have access to the identified outdoor hazards. During the inspection, she unplugged the speaker and wrapped the cord around it to remove the risk of entanglement.
