A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Licensing observed the following: - weeds with prickles that have grown in some areas on the perimiter of the outdoor play space posing a potential risk to children - children's mats with unwashed bedding touching which is not hygienic

Corrective action. The Licensee contact will remove the weeds with prickles and will ensure that mats with bedding are stored separately.

If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

Observation. A parent gave a staff medication for their child along with verbal instructions. No written instructions were obtained.

Corrective action. The Licensee will contact the parent to obtain written instructions prior to administering medication.

A licensee must (a) ensure that behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving the guidance.

Observation. Licensing observed a staff physically redirect two children. On one occassion the staff placed two hands on a child to abruptly move them and the other occassion took a child by the arm to abruptly move them. Neither of the children appeared distressed; however, this is not an appropriate method to redirect a child. Licensing spoke to the staff person and reviewed video footage of the incidents with the Licensee contact.

Corrective action. The Licensee contact agreed that this behavioral guidance was not appropriate and will be reviewing and training the staff regarding appropriate behavioral guidance techniques in addition to ensuring that the staff will not be alone with children until the Licensee contact is assured that behavioral guidance is appropriate.

Observation. The Licensee did not provide a written statement outlining the terms and conditions of refund at the time of prepayment.

Corrective action. Licensee will ensure to provide a written statement outlining the terms and conditons of a refund at the time of prepayment.
