  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A can of ant poison on the floor in a bathroom stall, potentially accessible to children.

  Corrective action. The manager removed during the inspection

  A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (b) is knowledgeable respecting each child's medical condition, if any.

  Observation. Manager was not aware of a medical condition listed in a child's registration form.

  Corrective action. Manager will review current status with the child's parent.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Two of the three staff files reviewed did not include a current validation of certificate through the early childhood registry.

  Corrective action. The manager obtained validation during the inspection.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Licensing observed that a clear plastic dome in the outdoor play space is cracked. Most of the cracks have been covered; however, there is a small uncovered section with jagged pieces that could pose a risk of injury.

  Corrective action. The manager confirmed that a replacement dome has been ordered. The manager stated that she will cover the jagged piece today.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. The Manager said the fire drills and emergency drill were completed but could not locate the written record.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a record of fire drills and emergency drills is maintained.

  The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Care plan for a child requiring support was not developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent.

  Corrective action. Ensure that each child requiring a care plan has one created in consultation with the parent.

  Observation. The Manager did not have a complete file located on site. This is a repeat contravention.

  Corrective action. Ensure that all information referred to in sections 56 to 58 is kept in a single location in the community care facility.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. 1 employee did not have a criminal record check completed by the criminal records review program completed. This is a repeat contravention

  Corrective action. Ensure that the criminal record check is completed for each employee.

  A licensee must notify the medical health officer within 24 hours after (a) a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H while under the care or supervision of the licensee.

  Observation. The Manager identified a reportable incident that was not reported to the Licensing Officer.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a reportable incident is reported to the Licensing Officer within 24 hours.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

  Observation. 5 of 15 children had photos that could not be used to readily identify a child based on the age of the photo. 10 of 15 children did not have a photo or digital image to readily identify the child.

  Corrective action. Ensure that each child has a photograph or digital image that can readily identify the child in an emergency.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).

  Observation. Twelve registration records were reviewed and immunization status is missing for 2 children in the Group Child Care (school age) Program. Photos are attached to the emergency consent cards, and all consents are complete, however photos or digital image is missing for 5 children. Records indicate photos have been requested but noy yet received.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all records are completed prior to children attending.

  Observation. Proof of validation of ECE Certificates is missing for 2 staff.

  Corrective action. As per discussion, please ensure all staff documentation is completed prior to employment. Please note this is a repeat contravention.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Three staff files were reviewed and a record of a Criminal Record Check (CRC) was missing for one staff. Both the staff and the Manager stated this staff does not work alone. The staff also stated an application has been submitted to request to have result shared with the current facility and also a RCMP check is also complete, however there were no copies of the checks on site.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all staff records are complete, including a current CRC from the Criminal Record Review Program for staff prior to employment. Please ensure a Health and Safety Plan is in place until a CRC is received from the Criminal Record Review Program. Please note this is a repeat contravention.
