  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. The following was observed outside: -An axe was observed in an unlocked wood shed on the side of the house. -gas cans containing gas were located next to an unlocked shed which contained sharp tools. The shed is located on the other side of cones with a string barrier.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of the children.

  • LICENSING

    A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.

    Observation. 1 Early Childhood Educator did not have the certificate posted.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a copy of each Early childhood educator certificate is posted.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. A medication form was observed without the amount of medication the child needed. Records of when it was administered was different than what was specified by the child's parent. The medication form did not direct how long the medication was to be administered.

    Corrective action. Ensure that medication is administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. It was observed that the fire extinguisher did not have a label to show when it is due for service. The staff present did not know when it was last serviced or when it is due for service. A review of the emergency equipment to recover from an earthquake did not have adequate amount of food.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the fire extinguisher is serviced annually. Ensure the food to recover from an earthquake is suitable for the number of children and staff present.
