- OR SUPERVISION
A licensee must ensure that children are adequately supervised by qualified employees in sufficient numbers to meet the needs of each child.
Observation. Licensing observed a staff supervising four children in the Group - under 36 months program in the outdoor play space. The staff was sitting and watching the group of children, including a child who was on the climber. While Licensing was asking the staff to move closer to the child, the child fell from the second step of the climber. The child did not cry or appear injured; however, this could have been prevented with active supervision.
14010 - CCLR s.34(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. Licensing observed the following: - each child has one snack and 2 water bottles/pouches which is insufficient in the event of an emergency that would require an extended period of care - a tall, heavy, unsecured air conditioner on a low table near where children play and sleep which could pose a risk of injury if it fell in the event of an earthquake
Corrective action. The Licensee will obtain additional emergency supplies and will secure the air conditioner.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation. One of the exits identified on the fire plan was blocked with a large stack of equipment and supplies. The manager explained that she was cleaning and temporarily stored these items in this location.
Corrective action. The manager agreed to ensure that any exits identified on the fire plan are not blocked or hampered at any time while children are in care.
11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a basket of diaper creams, potentially within the reach of children in the bathroom.The manager removed the diaper creams out of the reach of children during the inspection

If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.
Observation. Medication included in the child's care plan was not on site..
Corrective action. The manager will be in contact with the child's parent to obtain the child's medication as per the child's care plan.
