  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following items were observed at the time of the inspection; - A door in one of the programs has a damaged latch the could pose a risk to children in the program - An outdoor play area sand box does not have a tarp to cover the sandbox when not in use posing a risk to the children using the equipment - A shelf in the resource room is not attached to the wall posing a risk to the children in the space All of these items were reviewed in depth by the Licensing Officer with the manger at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times. Some items were being addressed while the LO was on site.

    Observation. A tall shelf in the 30 months to school age program was not secured in any way, posing a tipping hazard.

    Corrective action. Ensure all tall shelving units are anchored in a way that mitigate risk of tipping.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. A toilet paper towel dispenser was broken. The toilet paper roll for that stall was observed sitting on the handwashing sink.

    Corrective action. Ensure all fixtures are in good repair.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. An educator was observed washing a child's hands with the same gloves which were used to change the child's diaper.

    Corrective action. Ensure proper hand hygiene practices are established and implemented.

    Corrective action. Ensure care plans are complete.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed an unlatched cabinet, accessible to children, containing bleach. Staff latched the cabinet during the inspection.

    A licensee must (a) ensure that behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving the guidance. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a child leaving circle time and a staff take the child by the arm to redirect the child, posing a risk of injury. The manager immediately spoke to the staff and is planning to provide team education during a staff meeting.

    Corrective action. Ensure that behavioral guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving the guidance.

    In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.

    Observation. One of the four staff files reviewed did not include a criminal record check. The Licensee explained that a CRC had been obtained for this staff; however, they were unable to locate it at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure to keep the records referred to in sections 56 to 58 in a single place at the community care facility.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Two of the four staff files reviewed did not include immunization status. The manager obtained this information duirng the inspection.
