    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. Licensing observed medication was given to a child on two occasions that was not according to the medication consent plan.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure the medication is given to the child at the time that aligns with the plan provided

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following: - a suspended, unsecured cord within children's reach in the nap room, posing a risk of entanglement - children's medication stored in an unlatched cupboard, accessible to children

    Corrective action. A staff removed mediction from the unlatched cupboard and the suspended cord during the inspection.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Fridge temperature not maintained between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius. Licensing observed that one of the refridgerator's had a temperature of 5.1 degrees celsius.

    Corrective action. Licensee will ensure that the fridge temperature is between 0 and 4 degrees celsius.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

    Observation. Fire drill records were reviewed and August to October 2023 were missing.

    Corrective action. Licensee will ensure that the fire drills are always recorded.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguishers were expired. The manager said the fire department came last month but the tags were not replaced.

    Corrective action. Licensee must ensure that the fire extinguishers are serviced annually.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 8 children's files; 4 children were missing their enrolment date.

    Corrective action. Licensee must ensure that for each child, there is a record showing the child's date of enrolment in the community care facility. Please ensure that there is a system in place to review children's files.
