If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

Observation. The facility has agreed to administer medication to a child; however, no instructions were provided in the child's registration form and a care plan and medication permission form have not been received or created.

Corrective action. A staff confirmed that they will ensure to obtain a medication permission form along with a care plan providing detailed instructions.

Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.

Observation. Four children in care were under 36 months.

Corrective action. The facility will ensure to care for no more than 3 children under 36 months.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Licensing observed an unsecured, tall, heavy shelf storing toys on open shelving. Some toys/supplies are stacked on top of the shelf. This could pose a hazard in the event of an earthquake.

Corrective action. The Manager will secure the shelf and secure or remove any heavy items that are above children's height.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Licensing observed three suspended unsecured ropes attached to the fence in the outdoor play space, along with two unsecured, suspended electircal cords in the facility. All were potentially within the reach of children.

Corrective action. A staff placed the electrical cords outside of children's reach during the inspection and confirmed that she will remove the outdoor ropes by the end of the day today.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually.

Corrective action. Ensure that facility's fire extinguisher is serviced and tagged annually.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

Observation. 1 child was not signed in today.

Corrective action. Ensure that all children files are complete.

The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

Observation. Care plan not developed in consultation with the parent for a child needing extra support.

Corrective action. Ensure that care plan is in place for the child needing extra support.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Furniture, equipment, and/or fixtures were in disrepair, including: -Broken swing seats with exposed rusty metal chains; ensure that swing hangers, chains and seats are in good repair and securely installed to prevent any pinching hazard -Broken plastic cone with many sharp edges exposed -Soccer net's metal frame with peeling paint -Worn and cracked wooden table and chair (indoor)

Corrective action. Ensure that furniture, equipment and fixtures are clean and in good repair

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Fridge temperature not maintained between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius.

Corrective action. Ensure that facility provides a healthy and safe environment at all times while children are in care.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Emergency Supplies are insufficient to implement the emergency plan.

Corrective action. To replenish emergency supplies; ensure that sufficient supplies are available.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

Observation. 4 children's files were reviewed; 1 child's start date was missing.

Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. 2 staff's files were reviewed; 1 staff's certificate was not validated through the ECE registry

Corrective action. Ensure that all staff files are complete

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. It was observed that there were many areas with paint chipping and gyprock exposed.

Corrective action. Ensure that the facility is clean and in good repair.

A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A high chair was blocking the emergency exit to the front door. The high chair was moved during the inspection.

Corrective action. Ensure that the emergency exit is not blocked.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. The door leading to the garage where tools and cars are stored was unlocked, however child safe door handle was on the door. There is concern that older children will be able to open the child safe door handle and access the garage area. A razor was located in the shower stall in the children's bathroom, accessible to children.

Corrective action. Ensure that the children do not have any access to objects or substances that may be hazardous.

A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

Observation. The name of the Manager was not posted

Corrective action. Ensure that the name of the Manager is posted.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. 1 or 5 children's files reviewed did not have the name or phone number of the medical practitioner and 1 of 5 children's files did not contain the name or telephone number of the emergency contact.

Corrective action. Ensure that each child has a record of medical practitioner and emergency contact.

The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

Observation. 1 child requiring a care plan did not have one created.

Corrective action. Ensure that each child requiring a care plan has one created.

The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

Observation. 1 person living in the home over the age of 12 did not have a current criminal record check.

Corrective action. Ensure that each person ordinarily present on the premise has a current criminal record check.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. 1 of 2 staff did not have a current criminal record check.

Corrective action. Ensure that each staff has a current criminal record check.
