• MEDICATION

  If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

  Observation. A child in the program has access to their medication without written parental permission. Another child's record includes medication instructions; however, the medication is not on site.

  Corrective action. A staff requested written permission from a parent during the inspection and will review instructions for the second child with the parent and ensure to obtain medication if still required.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. A CRC was not on site for one staff.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure that a CRC is obtained and on site for all staff prior to employment.

  A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the Managers name had not been posted.

  Corrective action. Staff indicated a new Manager had been appointed and Licensing had not been informed.

  A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

  Observation. Licensing observed no care plan available for a child requiring extra support and medication.

  Corrective action. Staff stated care plans would be updated as required.

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed three care plans of which had not been reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent. One had last been reviewed in 2022 and staff stated the other was undated and was unable to provide confirmation of last date of review.

  Corrective action. Staff stated they would review and update care plans as required.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed two staff file, of which one was missing immunization status.

  Corrective action. Staff indicated they would obtain this information.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed unsecured shelves over 5ft tall in the children’s main activity area; posing a risk of falling in the event of an earthquake

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. No records were available for facility's yearly emergency drills. Staff indicated that lock down drill was practiced with the children recently.

  Corrective action. Ensure all emergency drills are practiced with the children and recorded accordingly.

  A licensee must notify the medical health officer within 24 hours after (a) a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H while under the care or supervision of the licensee.

  Observation. Licensee did not notify the licensing officer within 24 hours that a child was involved in or may have been involved in a reportable incident as described in Schedule H as required.

  Corrective action. Ensure all reportable incidents are reported to Licensing within 24 hrs.

  Observation. There was a TV in the classroom not securely installed ( fall hazard).
