  • C10.2 - Are children supervised, and are employee to children ratios maintained?Critical

Observation. The facility group size of 8 was in compliance today. It was however the licensing officer discovered that the facility is regularly over the capacity of 8 during outdoor play and the time when the music teacher comes once per week. The licensees own two children are stated to be regularly present during these times. This appears to be an honest oversight as the licensee thought it was ok because she stayed with the children when on site. The "facility" includes the outdoor play space. The group size of 8 must never be exceeded at the facility regardless of who the children are and the number of adults present. If children are absent and there are two extra spaces, the two children can attend. They are considered "enrolled" in the program and must have all documentation on site and must be signed in when present. Please provide a written plan to ensure compliance.

  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

Observation. One staff is missing a second letter of reference and immunization records. A music teacher comes into the facility once per week and requires a Criminal Record Check. Please ensure this is obtained and on site. As this is a weekly occurrence it is considered they are ordinarily present.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

Observation. The green/pink trike is in disrepair with the front fender being broken/cracked. The screws on lower hinge for the gate at the entrance to the outdoor play area is falling off and screws are no longer effective. The fence panel by the tree and the white fence panel by the gate require repair. The panels are not secure and could fall over creating a hazard. The wall in the nap room has a small hole in the drywall. This is at the children's height and children may pick at it freeing drywall material which could be ingested. Storage of liquid hand soap and Lysol wipes is under the bathroom sink and they are accessible to children. Please ensure these are safely stored so children do not have access to them.

  • C9.1 - Are there plans and actions in place to ensure medications are stored and administered properly?Non-critical

Observation. Emergency medication needs to be within quick access to the staff to ensure administration in a timely manner. Currently the first aid kit and an epi pen are kept inside the facility. Some suggestions were provided as to how you could ensure medication is readily accessible.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

Observation. The gate to the outdoor play space has a screw protruding which has the potential to cause an injury. The facility has a Little Tikes climber which has been installed over the grass which is considered to be a hard surface. Ensure this is installed according to the Manufacturers' instructions as per the Director of Licensing-Standard of Practice Safe Play Space which states "Manufacturers' instructions must be followed to ensure safety." It is my understanding that these instructions are not being followed. "Equipment must not be installed over concrete, asphalt or other hard surfaces."
