Any opening that measures between 3.5-9 inches poses a risk of entrapment for children in care. Submit a response by May 26, 2026 to outline how the risk has been mitigated.

    Observation. One care plan is in place for a child with medical needs. Evidence the plan has been reviewed at least once in the past year was not available for review. A care plan must be reviewed at least once per year to ensure the plan is still valid and current to address the child's needs. A response is required by June 2, 2025 that confirms the care plan has been reviewed and documented as required.

    Observation. One employee file is missing evidence of compliance with the Province's immunization and TB control programs. A system is in place to track employee files, however appears to be ineffective. Employee files must be complete prior to any person working directly with children. Confirm employee files are complete and outline the system used to ensure files are complete prior to an employee working directly with children.

    Observation. The system to ensure children's files are complete is ineffective. One child's file is missing the name and number of a medical practitioner. This is a re-occurring contravention originally found out of compliance on September 26, 2023. One child's file is missing information of any person's who is not permitted access to the child. The people named who have no access did not have last names documented on the form or supporting legal documentation that outlined the restriction. A child who requires extra support does not have a care plan in place. Another child who requires an epi-pen does not have a care plan in place. Outdoor play space inspections are not being conducted or documented daily. This is a re-occurring contravention originally found out of compliance on September 26, 2023.

    Observation. One staff working in the program did not have their educator certificate posted in the facility.

    Observation. One staff ECE Certificate has expired. One staff working the in the program did not have evidence of certification. Three children were observed to use the washroom unsupervised. Observed issues include: -The washroom is not visible from the activity area. -Washrooms are located in the same hallway where the children have access to two doors exiting the building and the unlocked mechanical room. -School age children from the adjoining room are also actively using the washrooms.

    Observation. It was disclosed by the manager the facility does not have an active supervision policy.

    Observation. All of the staff files are incomplete and are missing required records; character references, a record of the person's work history, copies of the person's training and skills, evidence the person has complied with the Province's immunization and TB control program, and ECE certificate validation. Staff files are missing evidence of a valid cleared criminal record check.

    Observation. Several children's files are missing identifying personal information that includes medical insurance plan number, date of enrollment and immunization status. This is a reoccurring contravention originally found out of compliance on May 12, 2022. One file is missing a legal court order of any person who is not permitted access. All children's files are missing written consent from a parent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance. A system for conducting outdoor playspace inspections was observed and does not appear to be utilized regularly. Checks were confirmed by the manger to be done daily however are not documented. This is a reoccurring contravention originally found out of compliance on May 12, 2022.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

    Observation. The door to the mechanical room was unlocked and accessible to the children. Cleaning agents and chemicals are stored in the room within reach of the children. A mini trampoline was being used by the children at the time of inspection that did not have appropriate fall clearance around it or safety bar in place.

    Observation. The facility has a system in place for practicing fire drills. Upon review of the fire drill record it was found three months of practice were missed.

    Observation. A review of children's records found several were missing MSP numbers, doctor's names and phone numbers. All records were missing the sex of the child, and a record of any persons not permitted access to a child. All children records were missing other distinguishing characteristics to readily identify a child in an emergency.

    Observation. A sandbox does not have a cover and could be a health and safety concern if animals are using it for a litterbox. Several play structures in the play yard need to be moved to meet the six feet clearance around equipment. A system is in place for monthly play yard inspections. A system needs to be implemented for daily inspection of the play yard.
