A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Licensing observed the emergency supplies are expired.

Corrective action. Ensure there are sufficient supplies to recover and respond from an emergency.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

Observation. There is no record of a fire drill being completed for July and August. The Manager said the facility was closed for approx 3 weeks in August.

Corrective action. Provide a corrective action plan.

The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

Observation. Licensing observed 3 individuals who are ordinarily present without a Criminal Record Check

Corrective action. Submit a corrective action plan.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Licensing observed a blue climbing rope showing signs of wear and tear.

Corrective action. Ensure all equipment is in good repair.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. Licensing noted a staffs criminal record check was expired. An application has already been submitted to the Criminal Record Review Program as of June 9, 2024

Corrective action. Ensure all staff have obtained a current and valid criminal record check.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. LO observed and discussed the following with the Manager, re: outdoor play area - Gaps under the wooden fence should be smaller than 9 cm or larger than 23 cm to prevent potential entrapment. - Lanscape wood: wood rot, exposed nails accessible to the children. The wood edging is not safe for children to step on as it could cause a child to trip and fall.

Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

Observation. A child's care plan was not reviewed/ updated with the parents.

Corrective action. Ensure that care plan is updated yearly with families. LO discussed some strategies/ideas how the Manager can facilitate this process.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): 7 children were present. Only 6 were signed in.

Corrective action. Ensure that accurate children's attendance records are kept ( time of arrival, departure and absence).

Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

Observation. Licensing noted the Licensee's Early Childhood Educator Certificate expired on June 8, 2022. The Licensee has taken the necessary steps to renew her certificate.

Corrective action. Ensure the ratio of employees to children are no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

A licensee must notify the medical health officer within 24 hours after (a) a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H while under the care or supervision of the licensee.

Observation. Licensee did not notify the licensing officer within 24 hours that a child was involved in or may have been involved in a reportable incident as described in Schedule H as required.

Corrective action. Ensure the licensing officer is notified within 24 hours whether a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident. The Licensee will submit a reportable incident form to licensing within the coming days.

A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

Observation. Licensing noted the fire drill was not done for May 2022.

Corrective action. Ensure each employee practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection licensing observed that sleeping mats were covered with sheets and blankets and separated by a vinyl strip. The mats were stores one on top of the other and the ends of the sheets were touching causing cross contamination.

Corrective action. Please ensure you provide a healthy and safe environment at all times.

Observation. Licensing observed the Licensee serving children snack with their hands, increasing the risk for spreading of bacteria and viruses.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. A random selection of children's files were reviewed. Out of the three files reviewed, one did not contain an MSP number.

Corrective action. Please ensure a record showing the medical insurance plan number is on file.
