- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. During inspection observed: -14 month child sleeping in the portable infant swing while holding a milk bottle. Licensing discussed appropriate sleeping equipment for infants and toddlers. - Cords of the floor music system were within children reach.
Corrective action. Manager said that appropriate sleeping equipment will be used, and the cords will be made inaccessible to children.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. During inspection licensing observed: -Paint was peeling off the shelf used by children, with small pieces of paint on the floor and shelf. Manager removed the debris from the floor during the inspection. -Several pieces of dog hair were visible on the couch accessible to children.
Corrective action. Manager said she has ordered a shelf liner to place on the shelf and will vacuum the couch daily before the children arrive at the daycare.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed children did not wash hands before eating afternoon snack. This was corrected during inspection; when Licensing pointed it out to the manager washed all children's hand before eating routine. Proper hand washing using soap and water to reduce the spread of illness was discussed with the manager.
Corrective action. Manager said children hands will be washed daily with soap and water before and after eating routines.
15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. Fire drill records for May, June, July, and August were not available for Licensing review. Manager said the records are on the computer, but due to a malfunction, they are currently inaccessible.
Corrective action. Manager said a paper copy of the fire drill records will be maintained as a backup.
13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.
Observation. 3 Children's files were missing consent to call a medical practitioner or an ambulance in case of accident if the parent cannot be reached immediately.
Corrective action. Manager said consent to call a medical practitioner or an ambulance will be obtained for all children.
19190 - CCLR s.57(3)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. Attendance records for May,June,July and August were not available for Licensing review.Attendance is recorded on a wipe out board that is erased at the end of the day.
Corrective action. Manager said that daily attendance including time in, time out and absences is going to be recorded and maintained. Licensing provided a sample attendance template.
