• STAFFING

  Despite this section, licensee may employ a person as a volunteer who does not provide care to children or supervise children if the licensee or the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. A criminal record check was not obtained for a family member.Licensee was able to provide evidence that the CRC was in process.

  Corrective action. Please provide a health and safety plan until the CRC is received.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

  Observation. Licensing observed that fire drills were not recorded for August and September. In discussion with the Licensee, they had not been conducted.

  Corrective action. Please ensure monthly drills are practiced and recorded as required.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the routine inspection it was noted that the water in the bathroom sink was above 49 degrees Celsius. The licensee stated that she is always assisting the children in hand washing. During the inspection licensee turned off the hot water valve.

  Corrective action. Pleas ensure that the hot water is not heated more than 49 degrees Celsius.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. Licensing reviewed records for fire drills to be complete but in discussion with the Licensee, the annual evacuation drill was not recorded and the Licensee said it had not been completed as legislatively required. Discussed further as to the intent of the requirement for an annual drill, and further discussed amending any changes to facility policies to accomodate that.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a full emergency evacuation drill is completed on an annual basis and record for compliance. Please submit a compliance plan to licensing as to when this drill will be completed.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (b) to release a child to someone other than the parent.

  Observation. On review of five children's files, licensing observed that two files were missing alternate persons consented to release the child to. The Licensee did note that these were new children to the facility and perhaps did not receive a full registration package.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that all required information is complete for each child registered.
