  Observation. Licensing observed records for fire drills but no record of the annual emergency drill

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. On review of two staff files, Licensing observed that the manager file did not have validation of the ECE certification from the ECE Registry.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all steps are taken to appropriately screen staff.

  Despite this section, licensee may employ a person as a volunteer who does not provide care to children or supervise children if the licensee or the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following (c) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one or more parent volunteers.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

  Observation. During the routine inspection 7 children's files were reviewed and all 7 children's files did not have an enrollment date.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are complete. This is a repeat contravention from 2022.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.

  Observation. During the routine inspection it was noted that two fire extinguishers that should have been serviced on January 12, 2023 have not been serviced this calendar year.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all fire extinguishers are serviced annually.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. In one of four children's files that were reviewed, there was no evidence of the indicated sex of the child. In two of the four files reviewed, there was no evidence of immunization status of the children.

  Corrective action. Ensure all children's files include the sex and immunization status.

  Observation. In two of four children's files reviewed, there was no evidence of the date of enrolment.

  Observation. One staff file did not have evidence of staff work history available during inspection.

  Observation. A random review of 6 children's records noted one was missing Care Card Number.

  Corrective action. Ensure all children's records indicate Care Card Numbers.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

  Observation. At the time of this inspection, photographs or digital image was not found..

  Corrective action. Ensure photographs or digital image is available for each child in care. Licensing to provide sample emergency cards which contain an area for placement of the child's photograph.
