A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.

Observation. Licensing observed that the staff did not take a first aid when picking up the children from school - further discussed.

Corrective action. Manager will ensure a first kit is available at all times, on and off site.

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

Observation. The water in the bathroom read 49.9 with a digital thermometer. Children are unsupervised in the washroom.

Corrective action. A regulator will be added to the sink, to ensure warm water at all times, particularly in the winter months.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher did not have an annual service date and that the emergency plan did not specify the evacuation location. Staff were not aware of the secondary location.

Corrective action. Please ensure facility policies provide complete evacuation processes.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

Observation. Fire drill were not recorded for the month of September.

Corrective action. Manager will ensure that fire drills will be completed regardless of how few children are in attendance

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One staff files did not contain character references for the staff - the checklist did indicate that they were present.

Corrective action. This was corrected by the second day inspection

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one or more employees.

Corrective action. This was corrected by the second day inspection
