A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

Observation. Observed the manager name was not posted with all other staffing information for families.

Corrective action. Please ensure all relevant information is prominently posted to inform families.

If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

Observation. Medication was not readily accessible to employees for a child requiring additional support. Staff said that medication is not always provided on a daily basis and would not always have access to medication in an emergency.

Corrective action. Please ensure a child requiring emergency medication does not attend without the medication being available and accessible to staff.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

Observation. A care plan reviewed does not include the course of action recommended by health care professionals for a child requiring additional support. A second child requiring additional support did not have a care plan available for review instructing staff how to respond in an emergency situation.

Corrective action. Please ensure staff have access to instructions of signs and symptoms and how to respond appropriately to ensure safe care.

A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.

Observation. In discussion with staff, an emergency evacuation drill has not been completed with a full evacuation as per facility policies and procedures for emergency evacuation. Staff did acknowledge that earthquake drills are practiced regularly. Further discussed with staff.

Corrective action. Please ensure an annual emergency evacuation drill is practiced by all staff, using the procedure provided in facility policy handbook.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

Observation. Licensing observed that annual evacuation drills were not recorded. Manager said that it was practiced as scenario questions came up.

Corrective action. Please ensure drills are recorded as per legislative requirements.

Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed both GCC<36 mths and GCC (30-sa) groups mixing during outdoor play. Discussed further with the manager.

Corrective action. A reminder to follow the schedule provided at application and maintain groups as per legislative requirements.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. Criminal Record Check on file for a new staff is not site specific. A clearance is in place from another facility and the manager has applied for a clearance through the facility.

Observation. Licensing determined a staff used harsh and belittling treatment while supervising children.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Chairs stacked in the I/T program which are a hazard for toppling if a child were to climb on them. - Sunscreen products accessible to children in the 3-5 program, stored in a cupboard in the bathroom.

Observation. Licensing observed a child requiring medication did not have a care plan to support the symptoms to look out for or actions required by staff. A medication form was available to administer medication if required.

Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is created in consultation with the family to support the child.
