• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Areas on the walls in both the GCC(<36 mths) and GCC(30-SA) programs were chipping and in poor repair. There is a concern that loose material from the walls could be digested by children.

  Corrective action. Manager will arrange for repair and provide a corrective action plan to Licensing

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Two care plans observed were not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

  Observation. Licensing observed in a 3-5 bathroom, toilet seats which were worn/marked and in need of replacement to ensure good repair.

• MEDICATION

  If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

  Observation. Medication was not readily accessible to employees while outside at play. Medication was stored in a locked cabinet within the classroom. Discussed further with the program staff who said that the child does not regularly require the medication but understands the importance of immediate access.

  Corrective action. Please ensure staff have immediate access to emergency medication required by child

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

  Observation. There is no care plan in place for a child requiring emergency medication. A medication form is available but does not include the course of action recommended by health care professionals other than direction 'as needed' on both the form and medication.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is made in consultation with the parents which ensures that appropriate direction is given to the staff as to when to use the medication provided.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A spray bottle of cleaning solution was observed within the children's washroom on the counter.

  Corrective action. The facility manager removed the cleaning solution and secured it to an area inaccessible to children. Please ensure children do not have access to objects or substances which may be harmful to their health or safety.
