  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the ride-a-long track in the outdoor play space, which is made of concrete, had a large patch of concrete missing which poses a tripping hazard either when children are running or a tipping hazard when children are riding the bikes.

    Corrective action. Manager said that she will ensure the area is addressed and repaired in a timely manner to ensure a safe play space.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Paint chipping on the walls in both the I/T and 3-5 programs. Manager said that the walls will be re-painted soon. - Weeds in the outdoor play space poking through the fence that are spiky

    Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in good repair at all times when children are in care. Please provide a corrective action plan to Licensing

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. There were no medication forms in place for two children requiring additional support. This was discussed with staff and the Manager that these should, at minimum, be in place when children require medication.

    Corrective action. Please ensure staff are aware of the requirements of medication in order to support the child if needed.

(Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following when reviewing staff files: - two staff have expired validations, having renewed their certification - One staff is missing validation This is a repeat contravention

    Corrective action. Manager will ensure validations are in place on renewal of certification and will audit staff files to ensure accuracy. Corrected during inspection.

    Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one employee. Discussed that a status is all that is required from the staff.

    Corrective action. Manager will ensure this is in place.

    Observation. On review of five staff files, Licensing observed that one file was missing a validation and one other file had an outdated validation as the staff had a renewed certificate.

    Observation. Four children's files were reviewed and in three of the four files, there was no evidence of a date of enrolment recorded.

    Corrective action. Ensure all children's records include the date of enrolment.

    A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

    Observation. Three programs fire drill logs were reviewed, and in one of the three logs, there was no evidence present that a fire drill was completed in the month of July, 2022. In a second log, there was no evidence of fire drills having been completed in April, May, June or July, 2022.

    Corrective action. Ensure all programs have documented fire drills completed at least once per month and that each employee practices implementing the fire drill system.
