A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as Family Child Care or Child-minding, must have for each child at least 3.7 m2 of usable floor area in the community care facility, excluding (a) hallways, (b) built in storage areas, (c) bathrooms, and (d) fixed appliances, or, if not fixed, large appliances that are not normally moved from one area to another.

Observation. Observed that some areas of the facility are no longer used as program space and do not meet for a capacity of 24. The space was re-measured based on what spaces were available for use and space was available for a maximum capacity of 20.

Corrective action. Please submit an application to amend the current licence to accurately reflect the space available.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Licensing observed that the outdoor playspace had debris, although the checklist ws marked as complete. Staff will discuss the purpose of the checklist.

Corrective action. Please ensure the outdoor space is free from debris on a daily basis

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

Observation. Hot water in the children's bathroom was tested and read 50+ degrees

Corrective action. Please ensure that the water temperature accessible to children is less than 49 degrees celcius

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Diaper change pad had a rip which leaves it open for cross contamination - Some children were observed to not wash hands after snack and went o play with toys. Staff said that some children are fed by staff.

Corrective action. Please ensure a hygiene program is practiced.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Licensing observed that both fire extinguishers were in need of annual service.

Corrective action. Ensure annual service of the fire extinguishers

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Licensing observed fan electrical cords loose on the ground and accessible to children. These pose a tripping hazard, entanglement hazard for the children. Further discussed with staff.

Corrective action. Please ensure a safe environment at all times.

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

Observation. The following was observed and discussed: - Tooth brushes were touching in containers in the bathroom - Bleach/sanitizer was not available for the diaper change area. Two children are currently in diapers.

Corrective action. Please ensure a good hygiene program is practiced.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. On review of five children's files, all were missing Care Card information which is required during a medical emergency referral

Corrective action. Please ensure this information is obtained during registration.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. On review of three staff files, Licensing observed two were missing validations.

Corrective action. Please ensure staff are appropriately screened

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.

Observation. A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one or more employees.

Corrective action. Please ensure staff are appropriately screened prior to employment.
