Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguishers required servicing. Annual service is overdue.
Corrective action. Manager will contact the servicing department to follow up and have the extinguishers serviced.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed the following, accessible to children: - Paper cuting tools located in the open supply room - cleaning materials in a drawer located in the open kitchen. - This room has a half door with signage to keep closed at all times.
Corrective action. Manager removed the cutting tools and will order a safety gate to be placed on this door to prevent child access. The manager will ensure that staff keep the kitchen door closed when children are present in the play space.

The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation. Care plan was not developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent. A medication record was provided but did not provide details of action to be taken to support the child requiring medication.
Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is in place for any child requiring additional support, and made in consultation with the parents.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. On review of 5 staff files, Licensing observed that 1 did not have a cleared criminal record check. There was evidence of expired clearances.
Corrective action. Please ensure all staff files are complete and expiring information is updated accordingly. This staff must not work alone with children until a clearance is in place. Please provide a compliance plan to Licensing by the date below.

Observation. On review of 5 staff files, Licensing observed that although 2 staff files indicated through a checklist that references were checked, there was no evidence to support that. Ie: no reference details included in the file. 1 staff file did not have any references.
Corrective action. Please ensure that staff files are complete with all required information at the time of employ and updated as necessary.

- POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. The fire drill documentation was reviewed for all three program rooms. In one of the rooms, there are two program types which occur at different times and two of each type of program for a total of four fire drills being requried by the facility per month. In two of the four programs fire drills were last documentated in Februrary 2022 as having occurred.
Corrective action. Ensure all fire drills are documented at the time of their occcurrence, on a monthly basis.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Four staff files were reviewed, in one of the four, there was no evidence of a current ECE qualification validation.
Corrective action. Ensure all staff who have the designation of ECE and ECEa have a current validation completed on a regular basis.

The manager completed the process during the inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure the system of validation is implemented for each staff member holding an ECE or ECA Certificate.
