A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. Observed the following: - Cleaning solution accessible to the children on the edge of the diaper change table - Cleaning product stored under the sink in one bathroom, accessible to children - Diarrhea restriction product stored under a sink in the other bathroom, accessible to children Discussed with the staff that unsupervised, the children had free access to these products which could cause serious harm if ingested.

Corrective action. Please ensure any hazardous substance is stored in areas inaccessible to children

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

Observation. Both hot water taps in each bathroom have a teperature reading 54.2 degrees and 54.1 degrees respectively.

Corrective action. Please ensure hot water is of a safe temperature where children have access.

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

Observation. In discussion with staff, hand washing and appropriate sanitizing is not fully followed. Child did not wash hands after diaper change and children didn't wash hands after eating, before playing with toys. Further discussed with staff and recommendations provided.

Corrective action. Please ensure children are encouraged to appropriately hand wash and sanitization practices are followed to reduce the spread of germs, etc.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

Observation. Of 3 staff files reviewed, all 3 were missing character references.

Corrective action. Please ensure staff are fully screened prior to employment

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. Of 3 staff files reviewed, 2 were missing validation through the ECE Registry.

Corrective action. Please ensure all staff documentation is in place for review.

Observation. Licensing reviewed the manager staff file which was missing validation from the ECE Registry. Discussed file requirements.

Corrective action. Please ensure any staff file is complete with the requirements set out in Section 19 of the CCLR
