• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the children's naping blankets were stored together - concern of cross contamination. The Manager said that she previously had a bagged system, which she will implement again.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that hygiene programs are practiced at all times

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must (a) ensure that a community care facility has (i) emergency exits that meet the requirements of the BC Building Code, and (ii) a fire drill system that is approved as definedby section 31 of the Fire Services Act.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the second means of egress, which is into the residential property above, was not accessible by the staff. The door was locked and there is no key available to the Manager. This is a concern for second means of egress.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that a second means of egress is available at all times as per the requirements of fire approval.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 2 staff files and observed 1 without any indication of references checked, and 1 with only 1 reference on file.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a minimum of 2 references are in each employee file as required.

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. Staff observed placing the children's lunch( cooked chicken fingers and fries) into tupperware containers to cool in the fridge.to be eaten at lunchtime. The staff scooped the food with bare and unwashed hands. Discussed importance of food safe practices and implementing the facilities policies on health and hygiene

  Corrective action. ensure practices are implemented as outlinned within the program's policies to ensure a healthy and safe environment reducing risk of illness.
