Licensing observed the following, in which children have access to; - Unlocked cabinet in the infant/toddler bathroom contained plastic bags - Overflow hole in both bathroom sinks in the 3-5 classroom had visible rust - Toilet seat in the school age boys washroom had visible discoloration

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During today's inspection the Licensing Officer noted the following: 1) the seal at the base of the toilet is cracked and is in need of repair or replacement in the children's washroom located in the yellow room. 2) the baseboard heater is rusted and is in need of repair or replacement in the boys washroom located in the clubhouse.

    Corrective action. Ensure the above noted items are addressed and the items are brought back to a state of good repair.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During the inspection the Licensing Officer noted staff's purses and backpacks readily accessible to the children and bottles of hand sanitizers located on a shelf in each classroom.

    Corrective action. Personal items of adults must be made inaccessible to the children in care as there is the potential they may contain hazardous items to children such as tobacco, medication etc. The hand sanitizer contains 70% alcohol and the warning label on the bottle states to keep out of children's reach.

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].

    Observation. The Licensing Officer reviewed 4 staff files (all new hires since the last routine inspection) and noted that one of the files contained a criminal record clearance letter addressed to another employer.

    Corrective action. The Licensee must ensure that all individuals regularly on site over the age of 12 years have a criminal record clearance letter addressed to them. This may be done by applying to have the results shared. In discussion with the Manager they will apply to Victoria to have the results shared with them.
