    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor area - A tall ladder, rake, and broom was kept at the same area as where the children are accessing the toys and equipment without any barriers to prevent them from falling. - A gate was placed at the bottom of the stairs, to prevent children from accessing the upper deck. However, the gate was left unlock and can be opened easily.

    Corrective action. Manager said that he will remove the ladder, rake, and broom and replace the gate

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor area: - Standing water was observed in the sandbox that was not removed before children access the outdoor playground. - There is no cover for the sandbox - A broken piece of wood was observed inside the sandbox area - The liner inside the sandbox area needs to be replaced

    Corrective action. Manager said that he will ensure to dump out all the water when he does playground check. Manager also said that he will replace the liner and remove the broken piece of wood to ensure the playground area is clean and in good repair.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. Medications were not easily accessible for employees

    Corrective action. Manager said that he ask parents to provide the medications so staff can have access in case of emergency.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Children have access in the backyard to stairs leading to an upper deck. Although there is a gate at the top of the stairs there is a concern that children may attempt to go up the stairs and fall.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure children do not have access to these stairs. The use of a baby gate was discussed.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Wall throughout the facility are in need of cleaning, a slat is missing from the backyard fence and foam is exposed on a bed mat.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure that the facility walls are cleaned,the fence is repaired and the foam on the bed mat is not exposed.

    Observation. Two children have food allergies listed in their enrollment records. There are no care plans with actions to be taken if the children have a reaction to the foods.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure a care plan stating what actions need to be taken is available for the children.

    Observation. Time out was not recorded for two children on one day and time in was missing for two children when Licensing arrived at the facility.

    Corrective action. Please ensure daily attendance records are current.

    Observation. Two children have non prescription lotions that are applied on an as needed basis. There are no written instructions from the parents letting the facility know when the lotions need to be applied.

    Corrective action. Please ensure written instructions are available regarding the application of the lotions.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Lysol is being used to clean the facility. Once sprayed onto a surface Lysol needs to be left a minimum of 30 seconds to sanitize. The manger said these instructions are not being followed. A cloth is placed on the change pad before a diaper is changed. The cloths are not single use and are not sanitized between diaper changes.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the manufacturers instructions for Lysol are followed to ensure surfaces are sanitized and also that any surfaces used to change a diaper on are sanitized between each use.

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. During this inspection CCFL observed ride on toys in the yard that were cracked and one had a missing pedal.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all equipment is in good condition.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The following were accessible to children and removed during this inspection: Clorox wipes, a lamp on the floor near the change table, an epi pen, a dirty towel behind the toilet.

    Observation. On inspection CCFL observed food and water in the emergency kit had expired. There were no other supplies in the kit.

    Corrective action. Please ensure an emergency kit with enough supplies for up to eight children for 72 hours is available

    Corrective action. Please ensure a record of each person who has a parent contract is available. CCFL discussed keeping a copy to the signed parent contract in the child's file.

    Observation. On occasion a staff who has no first aid qualifications walks a child to and from school and at times they are left with the children at the facility while the manager takes the child to and from school.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children always have access to a staff who has valid first aid.
