Observation. Medication was not readily accessible to employees for one child. The manager stated staff have asked the family on several occasions to bring the medication to the facility.
Corrective action. Please ensure all medications required for a child are at the facility.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. A shelf in the 3-5 room has been removed leaving holes in the wall and exposed dry wall.
Corrective action. Please ensure all areas of the facility are in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. The following were accessible to children: Infant room bathroom area - bleach, Windex, Mr Clean, airspray Toddler room - airspray on top of a toilet.
Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any hazardous substances.

A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation. Parental permission to administer Tylenol to a child was on site although specific symptoms or times to administer the medication were not available. Permission to administer a prescription cream to a child was on site although there was no specific cream listed on the permission form.
Corrective action. Please ensure specific times, symptoms and medication names are available on all medication permission forms.

Observation. Fridges in the infant, toddler and preschool room had temperatures higher than 4c.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation. No care plans were available for three children requiring extra support.
Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is available for all children who have allergies.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation. During this inspection Licensing observed mats in the infant room that were curling at the edges and posed a tripping hazard, a Rubbermaid container accessible to children with cracked and sharp edges, cracks in the diaper change pad in the infant room making the pad difficult to sanitize, cracks in a Little Tykes climber in the yard and slivers in a wooden seating area in the yard.
Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to these items.
11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Pea gravel is used as protective surfacing in the 3-5 year old yard. The pea gravel is not evenly distributed and equipment such as slides and climbers are on the pea gravel with little protection from injury if a child falls.
Corrective action. Please ensure that there is sufficient protective surfacing in the yard to mitigate the risk of injury to a chid that falls.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES
A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide.
Observation. During this inspection lunch boxes containing meat items were observed on counter tops. The temperature of the fridge in the infant room was 11c.
Corrective action. To ensure safe food storage please ensure items such as meat are kept in the fridge and that the temperature of the fridge is between 0-4c.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

Observation. Foam is exposed on some bed mats in the toddler program making the mats difficult to sanitize.
Corrective action. Please ensure foam is not exposed on the bed mats.
