    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. A. Flooring in kitchen has a mat on it, mat has a hole which could be a tripping hazard B. Outdoor dirt area has holes dug into it leaving an uneven ground, tripping hazard.

    Corrective action. a. Manager said they will replace the mat. b. Manager said they will even out the dirt daily before children go outside to play

    Observation. the following areas in the facility were unsafe, the electrical outlets were accessible to the children, there are two holes in the floor covering and are a tripping hazard. the electrical outlets were covered during the inspection and the flooring will be replaced.

    Corrective action. the floor covering will be replaced as per managers statement and the electrical outlets were covered during inspection

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed that one of the fire extinguishers was expired since April 2023.

    Corrective action. Staff and licensee said it wasn't checked and they will ensure it is corrected.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. Licensing requested the attendance records and the staff was unable to produce the previous days attendance.

    Corrective action. The staff said they only have the day of attendance and the licensee has access to all of the others. The licensee said she'll ensure that they're printed and accessible on site.

    Corrective action. The licensee said she will ensure that the validation is corrected to reflect the current certificates the staff hold.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: (1) There is a high chair located in hte kitchen that had food stuck to seat adn dirt smudges on the sides and back of the chairs (2) The laminate floor covering is torn and has a chunk missing

    Corrective action. (1) All furniture and equipment is clean when childrne are in attendance (2) Floor is clean and in good repair while children are in attendance

Licensing observed the following: (1) items placed on the top of a shelf above the chldrens play area, posing a falling hazard (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION) (2) a shelf located in the main play space and a shelf located in the secondary play space have sharp corners. Licensee stated she will be putting up soft corners. (3) Shelf in the main play area has foam coverings around the edges of a low shelf that are secured together with masking tape. (4) Plastic bags in the bathroom are located in an area accessible to children (5) There is an outlet in the main play area and an outlet in the secondary play area that do not have covers adn are accessible to children

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection the Licensing Officer observed the following: blind cords within children's reach, plastic bags and batteries stored in kitchen drawers, bottle of sanitizer stored the on bathroom counter, bottles of liquid soap stored in the lower cabinets of the children's washroom.

    Corrective action. These items may cause choking, poisoning or asphyxiation and must be made inaccessible to children. During the course of the inspection the Licensee and staff stored these items where children no longer have access and shortened the blind cords. The Licensee and the staff must ensure that this practice occurs on an ongoing basis.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. The Licensing Officer observed a climbing structure with a slide located on grass in the children's outdoor play area. This structure is over 18" high and must be removed or relocated onto resilient ground cover to prevent any injuries from falls.

    Corrective action. The Licensing Officer provided the Licensee with a copy of the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice - Safe Play Spaces which addresses resilient ground cover and height of equipment. The Licensee will need to remove the item or make it inaccessible to the children unless the item is placed on resilient ground cover.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The Licensee has the name of the back up Manager posted but not the day to day Manager.

    Corrective action. Ensure the name of the Manager is posted as per legislative requirements.

    In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The staff files were not on site during the inspection. Once this was brought to the attention of the Licensee the Licensee left the facility and returned during the inspection with the staff files.

    Corrective action. Ensure staff files are maintained on site or implement a system that indicates all legislative requirements are stored at another location. Some child care facilities use a check list to meet this requirement.
