A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Accessible heater was hot to the touch. Upon notifying the manager, the heater was turned off.

Corrective action. The manager will ensure that the heater is either turned off before children arrive to the facility or that the temperature is low enough that the heater is not hot to the touch.

A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): There was no covered container for soiled diapers in the washroom. Upon notifying the manager, a covered container replaced this uncovered one.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. One child missing an emergency contact.

Corrective action. The manager will follow up with the family to obtain an emergency contact that is neither parent/guardian.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One staff missing a criminal record check. During the inspection, the CRC was obtained, printed, and placed in the staff's file.

Corrective action. The manager will ensure that all staff have valid criminal record checks before working with children.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Observation. Two staff missing immunization statuses.

Corrective action. The manager will follow up with the staff to obtain this information and will place this in the staffs' respective file.

A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The door leading to the second emergency exit was locked. The manager unlocked this door during the inspection.

Corrective action. The manager will ensure that this door is unlocked during the child care's operating hours.

A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Certificate was not posted for one full time staff. During the inspection, the certificate was posted.

Corrective action. Please ensure staff certificates are posted in a prominent place.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. One staff file without a validation from the ECE Registry. During the inspection, the Licensee contact attempted to obtain the validation, but there was a technical error on the ECE Registry website.

Corrective action. The manager will validate the staff's certificate and print out the validation to place in the staff's file.
