A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Fridge temperature is at 6c.

Corrective action. Manager will ensure the fridge temperature is between 0 - 4c.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Licensing observed that the outdoor shed has 2 broken panels with exposed screws and the ramp to the shed is rotting.

Corrective action. Staff said that the Manager will follow up with the Church to ensure repairs are completed.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Emergency supplies are stored in a builidng separate from the child care. The area supplies are stored is is blocked by a shelf, making it difficult to access the supplies during an emergnecy an emergency.

Corrective action. Manager will ensure that emergency supplies are easily accessible to staff during an emergency

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

Observation. Current Fire drill records were unavaiable during inspection. Staff said fire drills were conducted but were not recorded for April and May

Corrective action. Manager will ensure current records are avaiable and monthly fire drills are recorded.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (c) the resources to be made available to the child requiring extra support by the licensee, including (ii) any modification to the program of activities necessary to enable the child to participate in or benefit from the program.

Observation. Care plan does not include information to guide and direct staff actions or modifications to the program’s activities.

Corrective action. Two medications required by care plans were expired

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. There are not enough emergency supplies for 72 hours for all children.

Corrective action. The manager will add more supplies to the emergency bins.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

Observation. A care plan does not include the course of action recommended by health care professionals for a child requiring additional support.

Corrective action. Please ensure all care plans include what actions staff need to take when working with a child requiring additional support.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

Observation. References for one staff person have not been verified. This is repeat noncomplaince.

Corrective action. Please ensure a minimum of two references are verified for all staff before they start work.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): An ECEA certificate for one staff had not been verified. This is repeat noncomplaince.

Corrective action. Please ensure certificates are verified before staff start to work.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one staff person. This is repeat noncomplaince.

Corrective action. Please ensure immunization status is obtained for staff before they start work.

Corrective action. Please ensure current immunization status is obtained for all volunteers.

Corrective action. Please ensure all volunteers have a minimum of two reference checks.

A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

Observation. The facility licence and name of the manager are not posted.

Corrective action. Please ensure the facility licence and the name of the manager are posted.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

Observation. A care plan does not include the course of action recommended by health care professionals for a child requiring additional support.

Corrective action. One child has a care plan that does not include information regarding the child's food sensitivity and does not include specific instructions to guide staff actions regarding other areas of the child's support needs.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. One file had no emergency contact and no contact information for a doctor and one file had no phone number for a doctor.

Corrective action. Please ensure contact information for a doctor/medical clinic and an emergency person is available for all children.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

Observation. Start dates were not available for three children.

Corrective action. Please ensure a start date is available for all children.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. A medical insurance plan number was not available for one child.

Corrective action. Please ensure a medical insurance plan number or BC Care Card number is available for all children.
