A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. -A gate blocking access to the kitchen was broken

A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

Observation. -Three chairs, six highchairs and a table were blocking the emergency exit

Corrective action. Please ensure these items are removed immediately to have access to the exit in case of an emergency evacuation

A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

Observation. -The sandbox has standing water on the cover. The water is approximately 2 cm deep. This must be removed as it presents a potential hazard

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. -A bottle of bleach and water was next to the diaper changing area. This is accessible to children. -Access was observed to the kitchen. A bottle of bleach and water, other chemicals and various bags were observed in the kitchen. These can create a potential hazard as this is accessible to children -A plastic bag was observed on the floor in the play area. This presents a potential hazard to children -A large piece of wood was observed on the ground leading to the daycare. This could present a tripping hazard

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

Observation. -Three children's records were observed. Photos were not observed in the records.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

Observation. -A minor incident log was not observed in the facility

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. -A staff criminal record check was not site specific. The staff is currently the only staff working in the facility

A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

Observation. -Fire drills were not observed for Oct, Nov or Dec.

Corrective action. In discussion staff said they started work at the facility in January. It is unclear if fire drills were completed for Oct, Nov and Dec as no records were available for review
