    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Few walls in the facility had paint chipping and dry wall was exposed.

    Corrective action. Staff said that the manager was planning on painting the facility.

    Observation. During the routine inspection 5 staff files were reviewed. A Criminal Record Check on file is not site specific for one staff.

    Corrective action. Ensure each staff has a site specific CRC.

    Observation. During the routine inspection licensing reviewed 5 staff files. One staff had renewed their ECE certificate and a validation of the old certificate was present but no evidence that the new certificate was validated.

    Corrective action. Ensure ECE certificates are validated.

    Observation. During the routine inspection licensing observed that for the month of June 2024 the fire drill was not noted. Staff was unsure if the fire drill was conducted or not.

    Corrective action. Ensure fire drills are practiced and noted down monthly.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following hazards accessible to children during today's inspection : > Plastic bags, toasters, splenda bottles, used yogurt containers stored under in sink in both rooms. The cupboards/drawers are not secured with a safety latch. >Towel to dry hands for staff are hanging on the cupboard door under sink which is accessible to children. > Mop and Mop buckets, vacuum, broom are stored in the area accessible to children. > The furnace room in the bathroom of the Caterpillar room is unlocked.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to health and safety of a child.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following safety hazards >Metal part on the corners of the carpet in the caterpillar room was exposed which can cause injury or can be a tripping hazard. >The bedding is left on the mats,stacked on top of each other which is touching both the cots and other bedding. >Mesh material on some of the cots is unravelling and some cots are not in good repair. > Medication storage obstructs the accessibility of medication in an emergency for the child as it is stored in the other room.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.

    Observation. Medication required for to be administered in response to a reaction however no details are included to instruct the staff of what to be aware of required action to be taken. It is noted that the medication is safely stored and easily accessible

    Corrective action. please ensure child's record shows information respecting medication to be administered and additional details relevant to care.

    Observation. Of the 4 staff files reviewed one was found to have an expired CRC. The manager included that an application has been sent and should arrive any day. This is noted to be a repeated area of noncompliance as previously identified in 2019.

    Corrective action. please ensure staff hold the required screening when working with children including a valid CRC processed through the Criminal Records Review Program every 5 years.

    A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.

    Observation. In review of 4 staff files it is noted that 1 staff no longer holds valid first aid ( expiry date Nov 2019 ) , it is noted that this staff at times works alone with children.

    Corrective action. Ensure children have immediate access to a staff who holds a valid First Aid Certificate. Licensee to provide a revised staffing plan and confirmation of first aid course registration. .
