Observation. A review of employee records revealed that a resume and immunization status were missing from one employee's information. All records required under Section 19 of the Child Care Licensing Regulation must be retained for the entire time that a person is employed, and be able to be retrieved upon the request of a Licensing Officer. A method for ensuring the completeness of employee files is required.

Observation. Records indicate that fire drills were practiced 5 of the past 7 months.

Observation. Licensee Contact informed Licensing Officer that employee files are kept at the Kootenay Lake School District Office. Licensing Officer was unable to verify the existence of the required criminal record check results, character references, work history, and immunization status of each employee at the time of the inspection.

Observation. A method of recording any food or drink that has been given to the children, that was not provided by the parents, is required.

Observation. One incident that should have been reported to Licensing was recorded in the log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events. This item has since been reported. No further action is necessary. Children's records require written permission from a parent, to call a medical practitioner or ambulance. Some children's records are missing a photo or digital image. Staff files are not kept at the facility, so were unable to be reviewed during this inspection.

Observation. Items labelled "keep out of reach of children" were stored in an unlocked cabinet under the classroom sink. This item was corrected at the time of the inspection.

Observation. Acceptable test results for radon gas have not yet been received by Licensing.

Observation. The facility is a new build - Lead in Drinking water has been tested at the school, however a test result is outstanding for the new building

Observation. At this time a 91 day Radon test has not been completed for the new build.

Observation. Observations: Log of minor injuries/incidents unexpected events updated regularly, play space inspections recorded appropriately, children's arrival and departure times consistently recorded Contravention : A review of children's files found the field where Dr's name and phone number was missing occasionally

Observation. Observations: Facility staff are appropriately trained and experienced. Contravention: The school district has provided a document that states the employee has a complete staffing file. Missing from this statement are the expiry date of the Criminal Record Check, evidence of training and skills (qualification e.g. Educator, Assistant or Responsible Adult) , First Aid and Expiry date, how many references and if the staff is an Educator of Assistant, if the qualification has been validated.

Observation. Observations: System in place to ensure children's records are complete. FLO tested system and found child files to be complete, reportable incident reported and mitigated appropriately. Contraventions: A review of the attendance records determined that on several days the departure times of some of the children is missing. It is recognized that daily play space inspections are occurring. A method of recording the inspections is required.

Observation. Observation: Written policies and procedures in place and readily available for staff to review. Contravention: Facility began operations in March. Fire Drills were practiced and recorded in April and May.
