  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. *CCFL observed sharp corners on the outside ends of both cubbies. As the cubbies are right at child's head level, this poses risk of head injury. *A large plastic toy bin in the outdoor playground was observed to have a broken door which when opened caused the bin to begin to collapse on itself. *A leather chair in the washroom had a worn spot on the seat creating a porous area which is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and germs.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

Observation. *The earth in the garden has become eroded underneath a portion of one of the fence rails (to the right of the gate) creating a 7" gap which is a possible entrapment issue.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Care PlansNon-critical

For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]

Observation. *A care plan is in place for a child with anaphylactic response to allergy however it was missing some information such as the location and expiry date of the epi-pen. In addition, it is recommended to place a copy of the care plan in the to go bag and record field trip instructions on the care plan.

This poses risk of entanglement. *A peg board was observed to have a large crack and be separated from the wall leaving a small gap. Two pieces of tape appeared to be holding the peg board to the wall. This is a possible pinch point.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Hazardous Objects and SubstancesNon-critical

Hazardous objects and substances are inaccessible to children. [CCLR Sec 17]

Observation. Observation: A door to a storage room located in the hallway was unsecured and accessible to children.

Observation. Observation: A low hanging bungee cord was attached from the opening gate to the fence. This is an entanglement risk.

Westgate Montessori has been a wonderful place for my two children and for our family as a whole. We are truly grateful and lucky to have Ms. Gouri and Tina as our kids’ teachers. They are warm and caring, always engage with the students. Our children love them and look forward to going to school every single day. We have been so impressed with how much independence and knowledge our children have gained. We’ve seen steady growth in early literacy and numeracy skills, but just as importantly, in social skills, kindness, and respect for others! Ms. Gouri and Tina always take time to share how our children are doing at school, both academically and emotionally. Our children are thriving, developing a true love of learning, and building a strong foundation for the years ahead. We would highly recommend Westgate Montessori to any family looking for a nurturing and loving Preschool for their kids.

Our daughter has been attending Westgate Preschool for the past year and a half, and we couldn't be happier with our experience. Teacher Tina and Teacher Gouri are exceptionally caring and patient, creating such a nurturing environment. It’s wonderful to hear my daughter come home and excitedly share everything she’s learned—from the proper way to wash her hands (including the fingertips!) to understanding rhythms and which foods are good for her bones. What impressed us most is how the academic portion is truly tailored to each student's needs. We recently received an offer from Crofton House, and I know that their dedication and guidance played a vital role in her preparation and success. We are so grateful to the Westgate team for everything they’ve done for our family!

Tina and Gouri are highly experienced Montessori educators with decades of teaching experience, which clearly distinguishes them from many newer teachers in the field. Our older child studied with them at an early age and is now attending York House School. Our younger child is currently enrolled in their program. Their expertise extends beyond academics to include early behavioral guidance, helping children develop strong learning habits and self-discipline—an aspect of education we value greatly. For families considering independent school applications, Tina and Gouri provide professional and comprehensive support, from academic preparation and behavioral development to recommendation letters. Although we live in Richmond, we are happy to travel to Vancouver because of the teachers’ exceptional experience and professionalism. For families who prioritize experienced educators, Westgate is an excellent choice. We highly recommend contacting the school to learn more about registration and upcoming Open House opportunities.

Teacher Gouri and Teacher Tina are dedicated, compassionate educators of great integrity, with excellent reputations among private and other schools. They prioritize meaningful education over advertising and genuinely care about their students, treating each one as if they were their own child. Both of our children attended Westgate Montessori School, and they love Teacher Gouri and Teacher Tina so much that they continue to visit them every year after graduation. That kind of lasting bond speaks volumes about the care and dedication they show to their students. We truly cannot recommend them highly enough.
