    Observation. Licensing observed one wooden picket to be broken in the outdoor play space. The fencing is inside the playground, acting as a barrier to the lower area under several steps of stairs. As a temporary measure, a large flattened cardboard box is used to block the opening preventing fall, with a rope tied preventing access. Licensee informs that they have arranged for the repair at the end of the month, along with the whole fencing shared with the neighbor.

    Observation. One child requiring life saving medication had medication that expired. Medication is not readily accessible. Licensee called the parent who arrived during the inspection. Licensee informs that the child will return to care once updated medication is obtained.

    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Cabinet underneath the art sink to be peeling and exposing fiberboard underneath. This item has been outstanding from the routine inspection in 2024. The cabinet door is broken, and currently propped up with a small container, and step stool pushed up against the door to stabilize. - A patch of paint has peeled off on the wall behind the art sink - A low window in the activity area pushes open all the way, providing a fall risk to the other side. Currently, there is a shelf blocking direct access temporarily. - In the outdoor space, a protective covering on the bottom of the gutter pipe is broken, exposing sharp plastic edges. These items are no longer in good repair or easy to clean. Licensee informs that the facility will be closing on break for the last week of June, and plan to have the replacements done at that time.

    Observation. Licensing observed an outdoor inspection log, however, not recorded this past week. Licensee inform that this task is usually logged by the Manager of the program, showed previous logs that were completed daily. The Manager was on vacation at the time of inspection, and will be returning at the end of the month. Licensee informs that staff will be notified to do so in the absence of the facility Manger.

    All persons over the age of 12 that are ordinarily present on the premises while children are present are of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for each person. [CCLR Sec 20]

    Observation. One substitute Educator did not have a valid criminal record check obtained by the Licensee. Licensee informs that a request has been submitted 2-3 days prior, and awaiting response. Licensee committed to staying for the rest of the day in place of the substitute, and not scheduling staff without a criminal record check obtained by them.

    Observation. Licensing observed lunch bags sitting out on a cart, with no temperature keeping for items that require refrigeration. A conversation was had with the Manager in regards to food safety, especially with the warm weather recently. A method to hold temperature will need to be provided for food items that require to be kept cold or hot. Link provided as a resource to food safety.

    Observation. Facility implements a two step cleaning and sanitizing system with soap water and bleach solution. Manager inform that the bleach solution is not changed each day. A conversation was had in regards to the importance of mixing new bleach solution each day, to maintain effectiveness of the chemical solution. A resource is attached for reference.

    Observation. Licensing observed a wooden shelf to be blocking the labelled emergency exit door, and a shelf blocking the evacuation route as depicted in the approved plans. Manager relocated the shelf blocking the back door during the inspection.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Emergency water has expired, however, water purifying tablets are available. - Manager was unable to locate emergency food supply. - Emergency supplies are stored at the back of the storage room blocked by many materials, and not easily accessible in case of emergency. - Alarm system on the back emergency exit door appears broken. This item was also noted in a previous inspection report.

    Observation. *CCFL observed 1-2 cm gaps between some of the hardwood floor panels in the main activity room. The Licensee reports that this item is slated to be repaired. *A bifold door in the last washroom requires repair as well as a bifold door lock to prevent finger pinching.

    Observation. *CCFL observed 2 chairs underneath the paper towel holder in the 1st washroom giving children height and access to spray cleaners. This item was corrected by the Licensee during the inspection. *A telephone cord was observed to loose and accessible to children. This creates the possibility of entanglement. This item was corrected by the Licensee during the inspection. *Several blind cords were observed to be unsecured throughout the facility. *The alarm on the back exit door is not functioning. *A tall shelf in the circle room was observed to be unsecured. The Licensee reports the shelf was relocated to fix the baseboards and had not been re-secured.

    Observation. *The finish has worn off many of the wooden tables in the main play room making them porous and no longer easy to clean. *The paint on the baseboards in the main play room is chipped and scuffed. *The floor transition piece between the staff washroom and the hallway is missing.
