The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. Licensing observed a children's chair in the main play room. The fabric on the seat of the chair appeared to be ripped and not in good repair. This makes it difficult to clean and disinfect adequately.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Notification of illness or injuryNon-critical

Licensing is notified within 24 hours after a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H or has a reportable communicable disease. [CCLR Sec.55(2)(a)(b)]

Observation. Licensing observed in the facilities log book that the facility was closed on December 20th and 22nd due to snow. Closure or any condition or event which could reasonably be expected to impair the ability of the Licensee, their employees to provide care falls under the reportable incident type "service delivery problem." Licensing requires an incident report for both days of closure.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records For Each ChildNon-critical

The licensee keeps a current record for each child showing the information required. [CCLR Sec. 57]

Observation. Licensing observed in one child's file that it stated that the child's inhaler was stored in their back pack. Licensing did not observe a care plan for this child. Licensing will provide an asthma care plan template as a resource.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

Observation. Fridge temperature 4'C= good! During today's inspection Licensing observed blinds were down for the two windows in the main play room allowing no natural light. Licensing inquired as to why the blinds were down and were informed that there was no reason. Natural light is an important component to children's physical and psychological wellbeing. Licensing observed a tall standing mirror in the main play room. The mirror was unsecured and easily tipped when pulled. This poses as a hazard. Licensing observed a door stopper and a metal bolt sticking out of the wall in the napping room area. Sleeping mats were observed pushed up against these areas for children to rest. Licensing was informed that staff will often move the children away from the door stopper as they sometimes will play with it. A discussion was had around the potential of injury when children are resting up against these objects. Licensing observed the temperature in the nap room to be cold. Licensing was informed that although staff have access to a thermostat the nap room remains cold as the door stays closed and secure. A discussion was had about keeping the nap room door open to warm the space and make comfortable for children napping on the floor.
