Observation. Licensing observed: - A single-seated couch cover in the Kindergarten and Grade 1 classroom is fraying and showing signs of wear, with exposed foam and inner material. This couch is no longer in good repair and is difficult to clean effectively. - A large sectional couch in the older age group classroom requires a thorough wash and deep cleaning

Observation. Licensing observed that the food supplies are stored in a locked storage room. However, the room contains oversized furniture that is blocking and piled above the evacuation supplies. This arrangement hinders the ease of transporting these supplies during evacuation procedures.

Observation. Licensing observed that the K-Grade 1 group area and the Grade 3-4 group area was only partly divided by a 6 foot high room divider. The remainder of the room had a water table and toys dividing the two spaces. A discussion was held with the manager to add another room divider so the whole space can be separated in order to maintain maximum group sizes of 24 and 30.

Observation. The centre separates the children in the following groups: Kindergarten / Grade 1 Grade 2 / 3 Grade 4 to 7. The Grade 2 / 3 group has exceeded maximum group size of 30 on a daily basis since September with group size varying from 31 to 36 children per day. A discussion was held with the manager that maximum group size is as follows: Group Child Care (School Age), if any preschool child or child in grade 1 is present: 24 Group Child Care (School Age), if no preschool child or child in grade 1 is present: 30

Observation. Licensing observed a broken window. The widow had been boarded up with plywood. The manager informed licensing that a repair has already been scheduled for November 1st.

Observation. Loose fill material depth measured 5" under the 6 feet high fire pole platform on the red playground, which is insufficient for the fall height. The manager stated she was aware the Fibar depth was insufficient and reached out to the principal in September to request a top off.

Observation. Four staff did not have a criminal record clearance letter on file from the criminal record review board. The new manager stated they were in the process of obtaining these. The new manager has applied to be an authorized person with the criminal record review board and once approved by the board can apply for the criminal records.

Licensing is notified within 24 hours after a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H or has a reportable communicable disease. [CCLR Sec.55(2)(a)(b)]
Observation. Licensing officer observed an entry in the minor incident log book dated September 22, 2021 regarding a missing wandering child. Staff took appropriate measures at the time of the incident. No incident report had been submitted to Licensing. Licensing officer discussed the incident with a staff and the program manager and inquired if the centre has a missing child policy/procedure. Both the staff or the manager were aware of such a policy.
