    A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

    Observation. At today's inspection the Modular building inside temperature felt cold, air coming out of the ceiling vent was cold and staff and children were observed wearing coats. A small plug-in heater was observed on a table at children's height. The Manager reports that the heating in the building can come on and off. The staff working in the building reports that it is often cold. The heat in the Modular building was a concern at the last Routine in Feb 2022. At today's inspection the 1 toilet in the Aframe building was observed to be out of order. The Manager reports that a piece in the toilet often breaks and that they request the custodian at the school to come and fix.

    Observation. Yellow portable: The furnace equipment and fire alarm/telephone boxes are exposed and has potential risks to children accessing. The cabinets/storage cupboards have chipped paint throughout and does not provide an impervious surface for cleaning. A piece of the wall (gyprock) is ripped open (at East side of activity room by art sink). There is no mop sink in this portable to allow the cleaners to fill cleaning buckets. There is a mop sink in the Modular building.

    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. Yellow portable: The stairs at the south/west end of the Yellow portable that are the 2nd method of egress have yellow safety tape closing them off. The posts mounting the stairs to the building are loose and the stair case rocks from side to side making them unusable. The wooden boards along the base of the building (crawl space) have broken boards allowing for pests to enter. Access to the Gas shut-off valve is sealed in by a screwed in board.

    Observation. Yellow Portable: Metal pipes from roofing material observed in activity room. Modular Building: All stairs and ramp area must have non-slip material that is not worn away as observed today. There is a tripping hazard at the top of the ramp area where the wood has worn away.
