  All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

  Observation. Overall indoors the play materials and equipment are in satisfactory condition. The outdoors requires some attention and seasonal maintenance. There is a significant lack of outdoor play equipment. See details re required actions below.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry [CCLR Sec. 19(4)(a)]

  Observation. One staff has an up to date ECE certificate. The second staff person has an expired ECE A certificate. The second staff person is acquiring the additional training to renew her certificate. A staffing exemption is required to ensure compliance. Discussed how to apply and the documentation required with the staff team present. Note - if CCFL had been informed of the situation in the summer/ early fall of 2021, a staffing exemption could have been applied for and compliance achieved. The manager is strongly advised to contact CCFL when issues arise regarding compliance with the legislation. Staffing exemption application attached to this inspection report.
