  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Furniture, Equipment and FixturesNon-critical

Furniture or equipment for sleeping is used by only one child at a time, is clean and comfortable, and is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it. [CCLR Sec. 15(2)]

Observation. Observed Licensee placing fresh sheets on top of the beds and around the mats in the pack and go play pens. Licensee washes the bedding weekly or as required. Discussed sleeping arrangements for the children given the range of ages and how to optimize health and hygiene. While the children appear comfortable, it is now time to shift children from use of beds (with a sheet on top of family bedding) and pack and go play pens. Pack and gos must be used as per manufacturer's instructions and not past the recommended age range. Discussed the options for moving forward including vinyl covered mats that are easy to clean and store as well as use for play. Noted that the existing crib sheets could be used on mats.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Safe Play Space Standard of PracticeNon-critical

Ground Surfacing: Protective surfacing is provided to reduce the risk of injury from falls. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

Observation. The Licensee has installed a back yard play structure in the yard. Reviewed the play structure and noted it is currently in sound condition however aspects of the structure would typically require resilient ground cover. In particular, under and around the rappelling wall and the slide. Installing fibar or other resilient ground cover surfacing that meets CSA / DOLSOP standards can be challenging (if not impossible) in a family child care that is in a rental/ leased home setting. Discussed options for ensuring safety and meeting DOLSOP requirements with Licensee and husband. Stated I would discuss this with my supervisor and do some research then get back to the Licensee and husband with some ideas for compliance.
