  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

Not free from hazards.; Not in good repair.

Observation. Licensing observed that the playground is aging and exhibiting signs of wear and tear. Notably, the wooden features such as the wooden playhouse and the climber have areas of deterioration, with some becoming rotten and crumbling. - The counter under the climber is no longer in good repair, with nails coming loose, resulting in the detachment of sections of the structure. - The sandbox supply level is insufficient, exposing the underlying landscape, which poses an injury risk when children attempt shoveling. - The steps on the climber have become slippery, especially during colder days and adverse weather conditions. Due to heavy usage, the steps have deteriorated, and exposed nails are now present, posing a potential hazard. - Green algae growth has accumulated on the climber over time, requiring thorough cleaning. - The decking on the climber is deteriorating, with uneven and rough wooden surfaces creating potential safety risks. - One of the wooden stumps located next to the climber has become severely compromised. The stump is noticeably rotten, loose, and has severely crumbled edges. - A pothole has developed in the pavement area around the biking path. While the path is frequently used by children riding their bicycles, there is a potential risk that the pothole may expand further due to ongoing use. The pothole tends to fill with rainwater during wet weather, creating unforeseen trip and fall hazards. - The wooden setting platform next to the sandbox requires sanding to smooth the edges and reduce any potential injury. A conversation took place with the Manager regarding the necessity of initiating planning for upgrades to the playground. Implementing these improvements will not only enhance safety but also improve the overall usability of the playground going forward.
