A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Fridge temperature is at 21.4 degrees Celsius

Corrective action. Fridge temperature will be lowered and thermometer will be placed in the fridge.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Outdoors: - prickle vines along back fence - wooden beams on ground along back fence - outdoor toys visibly dirty - garbage on the ground throughout the yard

Corrective action. Ensure facility and equipment is in good repair.

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

Observation. Water from bathroom sink at 50.4 degrees Celsius.

Corrective action. Ensure water temperature is maintained at a lower temperature.

A licensee must (a) ensure that behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving the guidance.

Observation. Licensing observed a support worker using inappropriate behavioral guidance. Licensing had a discussion with the Staff on site on ensuring that all individuals are aware and understand the facility's policy regarding appropriate behavioral guidance.

Corrective action. Provide Licensing with a written response on how this contravention has been addressed.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. Licensing reviewed ten child files, two did not contain immunization status and one did not contain MSP number.

Corrective action. Ensure child files are complete.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. Licensing reviewed en child files, two did not contain emergency contact and one did not contain doctor's name and telephone number.

Corrective action. Ensure child files are complete.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

Observation. No care plan available for two child requiring extra support.

Corrective action. Care plans will be developed and submitted to licensing.

A licensee must keep a record referred to in section 57 [records for each child] for at least 2 years from the date the child who is the subject of the record is discharged from the community care facility.

Observation. Licensing observed two children who no longer attend the facility, however the children's records were not available.

Corrective action. Licensing provided education on ensuring all records stay on site for two years.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Observation. Licensing reviewed four staff files, one did not contain immunization records..

Corrective action. Ensure all staff documentation is available.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

Observation. Licensing reviewed Manager's file, only two references were available.

Corrective action. Another reference will be obtained.
