  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. - Heater in main play area had duct tape used to hold down a loose part - Toy house in outdoor play area door is broken and not maintained

  Corrective action. Licensee will fix the heater and remove the toy house in the outdoor area.

• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing.

  Observation. Diaper bin was located in the outdoor area

  Corrective action. Licensee will move the bin back into the bathroom.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: - the fire extinguisher expired earlier this month - the emergency supplies were missing food and some water The licensee said she will get the fire extinguisher serviced and that she has been working on the emergency supplies kit

  Corrective action. Please ensure that the fire extinguisher is serviced annually and that emergency supplies are up to date and complete in case of emergency.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. One wall in the smaller play room has masking tape covering some damage on the wall. Although this may be a temporary fix, the wall must be repaired to ensure safety and a smooth surface for cleaning.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all areas of the facility are in good repair.

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. One child was observed to eat snack before washing their hands.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all children wash their hands before eating.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One floating shelf in the smaller playroom appeared to be coming away from the wall. The Licensee did pull the shelf off the brackets easily to ensure it did not slide off. However, either the brackets are to be removed as well or the shelf put back on and secured to the wall.

  Corrective action. Please ensure fixtures are safe and in good repair.

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. In the washroom used by children there is an air freshener spray that is accessible to children.

  Corrective action. Please ensure washroom is free from hazards.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. A review was done of 7 children's files. Some were missing immunization status.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all children have immunization status on file prior to attending.
