    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): There was air freshner under the washroom sink and the cupboard was not locked.

    Corrective action. The Manager removed this at the time of inspection.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed outside in the yard: #1) -it appears that the licensee has tried to secure the fence that encloses the backyard with makeshift pieces of wood -there are some gaps where there are pieces of wood that have been attached to cover them -along the bottom part of the fence in some areas, there are pieces of wood that have been attached to prevent the fence from leaning -the licensee explained that it was coming loose and parts of the fence were leaning -a secure fence line is required to ensure safety of children in care #2) -it appears one of the gutters on the roof is not working properly and the water is falling in the path where parents and children access the facility -there is so much water accumulated in the ground in that area that it has created a hole which is full of water -the licensee has attempted to fill the hole but the pressure of the water falling continues to create a hole -this pool of water is not safe as it presents a potential falling hazard, potential drowning hazard and potential standing water hazard which could facilitate mosquito breeding -this area needs to be addressed immediately

    Corrective action. Please ensure the outdoor play area is a safe and healthy environment. Please provide a plan for both the fence and hole of water to ensure the safety of children in care.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (c) is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it.

    Observation. An infant in care was napping in a bouncy/rocking chair with a blanket covering the entire thing. The infant is new to the facility and had trouble transitioning to a crib. The Licensee stated they tried to use the crib but the infant was upset and could not fall asleep. The parent stated that the infant may sleep better in the chair.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all children use sleeping furniture that is appropriate and safe for the age of the child. A bouncy/rocking chair is not suitable for naptime.
