    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the diaper change mat is ripped in a couple of areas.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention will be addressed.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed that a cloth towel for each child is hanging, to use to dry their hands. Upon discussion with the staff, Licensing determined that the same towel is used throughout the day. Licensing discussed that if using cloth towels they need to be single use towels to mitigate the spread of germs.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention will be addressed.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. Upon a review of the attendance records for the month of May 2025, Licensing observed that children are not identified as absent. Licensing provided education on how to correctly complete the attendance record for each day.

    Corrective action. The Manager will ensure that the attendance records are accurate on a daily basis.

    Observation. Upon a review of three staff records, Licensing observed that criminal record checks for all three staff are not site specific therefore, have not been obtained.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention will be addressed.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; -The fridge temperature was measured at 7 degrees Celsius. Children's food are stored in the fridge. - Several soiled diapers in a garbage bin that does not have a cover on it.

    Corrective action. Corrective action plan to be submitted by the Licensee.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that a child's emergency medication is stored in their backpack that is accessible to children in care.

    Corrective action. The Manager moved the backpack out of children's reach.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the name of the Manager is not posted anywhere within the community care facility.

    Corrective action. The Manager will display the Manager's name in a prominent place in the community care facility.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. Licensing was informed that a child's emergency medication had expired, returned to the parents and a new one has not been provided to the facility. Licensing discussed the importance of having medication, identified in the child's care plan, readily accessible to employees.

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted by the Licensee

    The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. Licensing observed a child's care plan that was developed in October 2022 and has not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan is to be submitted by the Licensee.

    Observation. Upon a random review of three staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's references have not been obtained. Licensing discussed with the Licensee what would meet the intent of this regulation.

    Corrective action. The Manager will contact the references provided by the staff.

    Observation. Upon a random review of three staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's early childhood educator (ECE) certificate has not been verified through the ECE BC registry..

    Corrective action. The Manager will verify the staff's certificate.

    Observation. Fire drill for December 2021 and Emergency drill for 2021 were not written down on the fire drill log. Manager stated that they had been carried out, however, forgot to write them down.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that records show completion of fire drills and emergency drills in order to confirm compliance with section 22 (2)(b) & (c).
