  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Not adequate emergency supplies.

  Corrective action. Manager will add supplies to emergency evacuation kit.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed seven child files, two were missing emergency contact information and one was missing doctor contact information.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Licensing reviewed two staff files, one was missing an ECE certificate validation.

  Corrective action. Manager will obtain required information

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Outdoor Play Area: several glass panels stored within the outdoor play space were accessible the children.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. No designated mat for diapering purpose. Currently the facility uses one of the children's napping mat as needed.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a separate change pad is available for diapering purpose only.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. The care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

  Corrective action. The Manager will discuss with the parent and update the plan if necessary

  Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one employee.

  Corrective action. The Manager will collect this information

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. At the entrance there were a number of ants crawling on the floor; the Manager stated there was a spill and it will be cleaned up and the ants removed.

  Corrective action. Ensure the facility is clean at all times.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. There were no records available for review for the monthly fire drills.

  Corrective action. Ensure to keep records of monthly fire drills and annual emergency drills.

  Observation. The following was observed to be tipping hazards and need to be secured to prevent injury: - the doll house in the main play room - the 2 shelves in the main play room

  Corrective action. Ensure a safe environment at all times while children are present.

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

  Observation. The facility re-opened in September after being closed for some time because of the pandemic. The fire drills have not been practiced since.

  Corrective action. Ensure to practice and record evidence of the monthly fire drills.

• STAFFING

  The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

  Observation. One individual in the home had an expired criminal record check.

  Corrective action. Ensure everyone ordinarily present on the premises has a valid criminal record check available for review.
