• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Outdoor play area needs maintenance; school care climber has mold that needs to clean; an area inside the red playhouse has wood piece exposing sharp edges. Please keep the wood chips racked to even the surface under swings.

  Corrective action. Manager will provide written response outlining corrective action plan.

  Observation. Outdoor play equipment for school age care program is visibly dirty and has grime on it.

  Corrective action. Manager said that they have planned to clean outdoor space in the last week of August.

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. Cleaning supplies stored under the sink in school age care washroom.

  Corrective action. Manager directed the staff to remove the hazardous items from the washroom.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. In School Age Care washroom, one toilet seat was not secure and the lid of water tank attached to the toilet seat was not in place.

  Corrective action. Manager said that they are aware of this concerns and currently working on to get it fixed.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Criminal Records Clearance for one employee not obtained under the Criminal Records Review Act. RCMP clearance was found on file.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all staff files are complete.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Early Childhood Education Assistant certificate was not validated for two employees.

  Corrective action. Manager said that she will verify staff certificates.

• A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. A child grabbed a staff's coffee mug from the top of a cubby shelf and spilled it on his body. The child received burns.

  Corrective action. Corrective action required.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Review of six children files observed one child was missing medical practitioner's name and phone number on file.

  Corrective action. Ensure all children files are complete.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. There is a broken toilet in the children's washroom with no tank cover on it. There is little to no protective ground surfacing under the swings in the large outdoor play space.

  Corrective action. Ensure to provide a healthy and safe environment at all times.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed six children's files. Two did not include the name and telephone number of an emergency contact and one did not contain the name and telephone number of the child's medical practitioner.

  Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete.
